Burlington Lakers Travel Team Information

About us

The Burlington Lakers Soccer Club is a premier girls’ travel club that was formed by Coach Fran Demasi in 2001. The club focuses on team play and sportsmanship. High level coaching in a fun and enthusiastic environment can be expected. Coaching consists of technical and tactical skills improvement, communication, endurance, and teamwork. High level soccer training requires a commitment from the parents, players and coaches. The club’s main purpose is to insure that each player has an enjoyable soccer experience while moving toward her own personal goals.

Tryouts

 Tryouts for the Burlington Lakers consist of 2 sessions during the middle of August. The selection process is based on several factors. The coaches are looking for players with technical and tactical ability, a strong work ethic, natural physical ability, a team player, a willingness to learn, and the potential to grow into a strong player. Letters are mailed within two weeks after tryouts notifying all players trying out whether or not they have been selected for a position on one of our travel teams.

 What to expect

A typical season begins with participation in one of the area indoor leagues beginning in late fall or early winter. We will also offer weekly skills and weight training sessions throughout the winter months. Training sessions will be held at Burlington High School and the Shelburne Athletic Club.

Beginning in late April or early May there will be two outdoor training sessions a week at either Rock Point field behind Burlington High School or behind Hazelett Strip-Casting Corporation in Colchester. All teams will play in Division 1 of the Vermont Soccer League. As part of this league we will play a 7 or 8 game schedule throughout the month of May. These games are typically played on the weekend. In addition, we will participate in the Vermont State Cup which is held the first weekend in June. The winner of this tournament will represent Vermont in the regional tournament which will be held in Portland, Maine in 2008.

Teams will also participate in 2 or 3 out of state tournaments.

Player Commitment

 The indoor league and indoor training are optional, but once we begin our outdoor training we expect total commitment from players.
